I’ve had that song in my head all day!

One thing I found interesting while looking for background info on this is that there’s an accepted notion that these appliances were all secretly used for intimate purposes, and I don’t think that’s true. It would be interesting to do more research, but that would probably be a PhD rather than a blog post.
